THE REAL  b - b - b - BUZZ!

Watch your snail-mail for the RCRA Christmas Newsletter.  Editor Steve Hart is working on it and will send it out in December.  If you have any news you would like to include, catch him on the net or call him at 665-2374.

Thanks to all who made support donations for 2005!

Just in from our Bloomer “Buzz News Bureau” is the exciting report that KB9NIR, Scott Kilde, wife and baby are doing fine in Kenya.  Scott worked with N9PPE, Jeff Cole at REX Systems until Y2K.  KG0KM, Rev. Rolf Nestingen got a well deserved vacation in Florida and visited sites aournd St. Augustine.  KB9SHO, Jarad Walther received some awards and it made local tv news.  Plans for Jarad include engineer schooling at Platteville.  KB9ZMI, Ben Finley at Colfax passed his drivers exam and is working with EMT.  KC9FIG, Blaze Cunningham has been giving some off season cave tours to geology students at Spring Valley.

N9LRV, Gerald Leff’s wife Jean had surgery as well as KD4FNW, Diana Weiss.  KB9AGC, Melvin Stang got a boost from his defib unit and KB9LUK, James Kinney got some stints.  N9ZFY, Everett Biles at Durand made ground contact but, has been heard back on the air and busy delivering cars and shopping at Aldi’s.  Get wells to all!

Survey results are in from our January newsletter.  Just six of the suvey sheets were returned.  Of the six there was the one from KG9CT, Chuck Brictson at Spring Valley informing us that he had two complete classic hf stations to donate.  Thank you very much Chuck!  The other survey filled out was from a very concerned KB9SGY, David Garnett who offered to be a director, indicated he understood the part about pledging and working, would help net control and needed some help with a hf antenna.  David has received a vertical donated by WB9PMF, Time Rose.  KB9SGY has also been promoted to doing what Dave does best – Public Relations Director for RCRA.  Thanks David!

KA9PVY, Ken Reetz shared with us lately that he also ran an electronic servicing business besides working at UniRoyal in Eau Claire.  In retirement Ken enjoys playing cards at the Fall Creek Senior Center and getting out to all the ham club meetings.  Nice to meet new area ham N0AXT, Gerald Tietz.  Gerry is from New Brighton, MN and vacations at his river residence just north of I94.  He is a grad of Menomonie High and knew many of the hams that were around Menomonie in the ‘60s.  Thanks for your pledge Gerry!

K9IAG, Ken Drake had some corrective vision surgery.  Sorry to report the passing of AD9I, Doug Holtzman in early spring and more recently W9SWL, John Ingersol.  Both these hams were very active in helping with exams and club support and family, friends and ham friends miss them greatly.  KB9TLV, John McDonald at Cumberland got his station working and put up everything for vhf and uhf antennas this summer.  He also picked up a MFJ code reader/sender that he will use in up coming contests.

Having problems getting our Web master KC9CRE, Chris Smith?  Chris tells us that his “spam blocker” may be keeping some of you out.  Contact Chris at the e-Mail or phone addresses on the front legend of this (the September Newsletter) news for resolving those problems.

Storm Spotters have seen some activity this year.  KB9ULF, John Wagner has been tracking weather and emergency preparations including those with hurricane Katrina.  We have received formal traffic from him that volunteers for the evacuation and affected area will start to be deployed locally on September 8th.  See also events calendar for emergency leadership training on October 29th.

KB9SGY, David Garnett attended the Lake George courage camp and traveled to Itasca State Park and Duluth on the way back.

Time to roll the credits for our groups’ last auction.  January survey results told us there was no new interest in volunteering.  What became evident was that if any one person on the auction team did not attend we would start falling on our face.  Directors voted to approach the Eau Claire Club about taking it over and they responded favorably.  March 18th is their scheduled date.  Thanks to all who helped me (KA9OMC) keep it going for 18 years.  Bruce Walther, W9QAH and KF9CU, Arlene and Dave Kraft had worked the auction for 16 consecutive years.

WB8KLO, John Weiss is now W9JWW and KD4FNW, Diana Weiss is now W9DLW.

Saturday Breakfast Break goers are forming up groups at two locations: the Menomonie Burger King on Main Street and the Acoustic Café on Broadway and Main Street.

More recent fuel and cost of living expenses have caused the directors to opt for an on air “First Monday” meeting after the regular net and to cancel gathering at the Depot Restaurant on fourth Tuesdays.  Join us the first Monday of the month on the repeater.

Congratulations to KE9CS, Kenny Dicks on his retirement from Public Broadcasting on July 8th.

WB9PMF, Tim Rose, N9VOY, Bob Rose and me, KA9OMC attended the Wisconsin Association of Repeaters meeting July 16th at the EC Airport.  There seemed to be good relations between Wisconsin, Minnesota and Illinois but there are gaps with Michigan.

W9JWW, John Weiss had requested we look at the possibility in finishing what was the Stout Club’s project of putting a 440 mhz repeater on the local cable tower.  RCRA just did not have the funding.  In the April 26th meeting and on September 5th’s “First Monday” I (KA9OMC) suggested that maybe the Stout Club could open its membership up to active community hams.  With the UWS replacing staff frequently it will continue to be hard to finish any projects the clubs gets started.

DHFM has failed to send RCRA the payment it owes us for operation of the “Pinger Propogation Node” for the period January 1 to July 1, 2005.  Early in the year they had informed us that they were out of money but expected to be bought up in 30 to 60 days.  This time passed without any payment so RCRA sent them certified mail and phone calls regarding their debt.  There is where we are at with that.

W2XAB, John Burningham had donated an Icom 2at to the club when he was teaching here and when the squelch on the 02AT we were using at Knapp remote died this summer, John’s radio fit the bill.  Thanks XAB!

KB9VYF, Lanny Roth passed his extra class this summer and donated his training materials to us. You can see a picture of Lanny at Bushland Radio when he used to do the sign on show for WCRW.

Many of us had fun at the Chippewa Valley ARC’s tailgate at the Eagles Club on July 9th and visited with KE9BM, Ron Moody there from Colfax.

73’s de KA9OMC.

Throwing out schematics or old operators manuals for equipment?  Throw it to the RCRA. Our library continues to grow, and besides, those manuals you get from the web won't compare to the originals.
